------------------------------

1. INTRODUCTION

Thankyou for choosing Toolbar 95. This program is a Toolbar for Windows 95. It allows files to be dragged from Explorer onto one of many toolbars, and then for that file to be started with a single mouse click or keypress.

The program supports up to 10 toolbars on screen at any time, and "unlimited" toolbars on disk (limited only by disk space). Each toolbar can contain up to 255 buttons, each button representing a file, folder, or drive on your computer.

Buttons can be moved or copied between toolbars, or change position on the current toolbar. Files can be dragged onto certain buttons to start them with an application different from their File Type.

See (4) FILES INSTALLED for a list of files installed when you install the Toolbar.
See (8) FURTHER INFORMATION for more information on what Toolbar does.

2. INSTALLATION

To install Toolbar 95, perform the following actions:-

a. Locate the directory containing the Toolbar installation files.
b. Double click the "Setup" application.
c. Follow the instructions given.

Installation should take about 2 minutes. You will require 229Kb of hard disk space. Further space may be required during use of the Toolbar.

Some files may not copy if they are already in use. In this case, a temporary file is written to your hard disk, and when Windows is next started, the temporary file is copied over the original file. This problem should not occur in this initial release.

3. UNINSTALLING

To remove Toolbar 95 from your system (i.e. uninstall it), perform the following actions:-

a. Click the Start Menu button.
b. Select "Settings", and then "Control Panel".
c. Select "Add/Remove Programs".
d. In the list box at the bottom of the dialog box, locate "Toolbar 95".
e. Select"Add/Remove".
f. Follow the instructions given.

Please note that the Setup program is not removed during uninstallation. This is because you are using it to uninstall Toolbar. When you restart Windows, the setup files will be automatically removed from your hard disk.

4. FILES INSTALLED

By default, the following files are installed to C:\PROGRAM FILES\TOOLBAR 95. (This folder can be changed during installation).

Filename Size
SETUP.EXE 67Kb
SETUP.DLL 41Kb
SETUP.INF 2Kb
TOOLBAR.EXE 78Kb
TOOLBAR.HLP 46Kb
TOOLBAR.CNT 3Kb
README.TXT 9Kb

By default, shortcuts are made in a Toolbar 95 program group, and in the startup group. This can be changed during installation.

5. KNOWN BUGS AND LIMITATIONS

The following items detail bugs and limitations in the product, that are known about in this release:

* Although shortcuts can be dropped onto a toolbar, the .LNK file associated with the shortcut must remain on the hard disk. I.e., you cannot delete the original shortcut.
* While a property sheet is open for a particular object, property sheets for similar objects cannot be accessed.
* Objects such as the Recycle Bin and Inbox, cannot be dropped onto a toolbar.
* Selecting Alt+Tab between toolbars, and then deselecting it, will keep the task bar button available when it should be closed. It will be removed when Toolbar is closed.
* Certain "Virtual Desktop" applications stop the Toolbar from appropriately repositioning itself when the screen is resized using an application such as "QuickRes", a Microsoft PowerToy. If the "Virtual Desktop" application is not running, repositioning occurs correctly.

Released.

Assumed bug when change display size using QuickRes was found to be because of Virtual Desktop programs.
Added keywords to help file, and related topics index.

20-Feb-96
---------

Fixed bug when you change display size. It still has problems if you change to 1024x768 though.
Fixed bug where selection wouldn't change if you selected with mouse.
Made left clicking task button produce main menu.

19-Feb-96
---------
You can now Alt+Tab between Toolbars. This is an application property. Set to OFF by default. If ON, then switched OFF, you will not be able to Alt+Tab, but the task bar button for the toolbar remains.
You can now use the keyboard to move between buttons. When a toolbar has the keyboard focus, the cursor keys move between buttons. Home moves to the first. End to the last. Space or enter left clicks the button. Backspace or the Context menu key on 105-key keyboards, right clicks it.
App.Props: Open On Start is disabled and cleared if Save On Close is not set.

17-Feb-96
---------
Help file created.
Access help from most menus and in property sheets. Main menu help cannot be accessed with F1- something to do with either it being generated from the tray bar, or because the main window is hidden.
Ability to open a toolbar from the command line.
Only one instance is allowed.
Accelerators added to property sheets.
Mutliple dialog boxes (of the same type) could be opened. When closed a GPF would occur. Fixed, except for the Save dialog box.
If you dropped a shortcut, then went to the property sheet, you could not get to the Appearance tab. Fixed. This also means that dropped files are now validated correctly - before they weren't validated at all!
Toolbar position is now saved correctly.
Cancel an Open does not give an error anymore.
Tooltips would not always display if a number of toolbars were close together. The toolbar being tipped is now brought to the front to fix this.
Closing a window will now successfully redock any toolbars.
About dialog box would obscure error messages at startup. Fixed.
Stopped user from trying to open the same toolbar twice. This caused a problem when you closed. (It would open the same toolbar more than once when you next started).
Tab order of property sheets fixed.

11-Feb-96
